Method Reference:
AOAC 2013.01
Method Description:
VIDAS SPT Assay is an enzyme immunoassay for the detection of Salmonella receptors using the ELFA technique (Enzyme-Linked Fluorescent Assay).
Confirmation services also available.
Additional Information:
Based on a novel recombinant phage protein-based technology, VIDAS UP Salmonella is an automated qualitative test for use on the VIDAS for the detection of Salmonella in human and animal food products, production environmental samples, and primary production samples. Note that a percentage of all raw commodities may contain a natural low level of these organisms.
PCR and ELFA Method Comparison – Which method should I choose?
Both test methods will provide accurate results. See the table below for a high-level test comparison.
Assay | What does this test measure? | Test Advantage | |
PCR GENE-UP® | Molecular Assay | Detects pathogens using target sections of DNA that are specific to that pathogen, making the assay more sensitive than the VIDAS. | Fewer false negatives and fewer false positives. |
ELFA VIDAS | Immunoassay | Detects pathogens by having proteins bind to pathogen-specific receptors. | More cost effective. |
