Improvement to Medallion’s Final Reports

Continuing with Medallion’s commitment to quality and technical expertise, we have added a new feature
to all Medallion Final Reports. Starting in June 2010, Medallion Final Reports will include a summary
of the methods used during a particular submission. This summary will be listed at the end of the
report; keeping the form clear and easy to understand. This enhancement will give you, our valued
customers, a better understanding of how samples were analyzed and assure that the proper methods were
used. As always, detailed method descriptions will be provided on our website: www.medallionlabs.com.

The science of fiber is complex and ever-changing. With the increased usage of specialty fibers
as well as discoveries regarding fiber’s functional health benefits, traditional fiber definitions
and analytical methods have evolved. In 2009 the CODEX Alimentarius Commission adopted a standard
international definition for dietary fiber, and AOAC International validated and adopted Official
Method of Analysis 2009.01 to quantitate dietary fiber in accordance with the CODEX definition.

Wiley Award

Medallion Labs is pleased to announce our Senior Technical Manager, Jonathon DeVries, as this year's
recipient of the Harvey W. Wiley Award. This prestigious scientific honor is given annually by the
Association of Analytical Communities International (AOAC). For decades, DeVries has been involved
with AOAC through participation in committees and task forces, a spot on the AOAC Board of Directors
as well as AOAC President from 2003 to 2004. Today, he serves as the Treasurer on the Board of Directors.
Jon has devoted over 30 years to working in the world of analytical chemistry. His accomplishments
are vast and the spectrum is broad, ranging from work on vitamins to pesticides to dairy. His long-term
collaborative projects have led to the development of the AOAC Official Method 985.29 for dietary
fiber—an area of expertise for Dr. DeVries. Please join us in congratulating Jon on this important
accomplishment and career milestone!
